Bye Bye Migraine Salve

As I become a grandma millennial, I find a good salve is a necessary component to life. I am constantly battling aches and pains. Getting older was not something I ever considered would be painful, but boy was I wrong. I can sneeze wrong and hurt myself, which let’s be real, sucks! Stress also tends to hang out right on my shoulders and neck making some days extremely uncomfortable. So, I found myself searching for an alternative to manage the pain that wasn’t ibuprofen.

This turned out so nice I ended up giving it to my boss as part of her birthday gift since she struggles with migraines. And hey, I can always make more right? This salve smells like a dream and she now keeps it at work to break out when she feels a migraine coming on. Needless to say she loves it and is often just smelling it while distracted. Her love for it inspired me to share this recipe after all.

The Raw Stuff

  • 4 Tablespoons of candelilla wax (beeswax for my non-vegans)
  • 1 Cup of body butter  (You can use shea butter)
  • ½ Cup of carrier oil (I.E. Sweet almond oil, Jojoba oil)
  • 1 Teaspoon Vitamin E
  • 20 drops of essential oil
salve supplies

  • Double boiler (I used two pots)
  • Measuring cups and measuring spoons
  • A Spoon
  • 1 8 oz jar
melted salve

Putting It All Together

First we need to get the double boiler set up or if you are like me grab two pots. In the bigger pot fill it halfway with water and in the smaller pot set it inside the big pot on top of the water. Look at that step 1 complete!

I turn the burner on to allow the water to get a little warm before adding my beeswax. I learned beeswax takes more time to melt than most butters I’ve worked with. Add the beeswax to the smaller pot.

When the water comes to a boil turn the heat to low. Stir the beeswax occasionally and let it melt completely.

Once the beeswax is melted, add the butter of your choosing. Continue to stir occasionally.

After the butter has melted completely go ahead and add your carrier oil. Then, you guessed it, stir!

Remove from heat however leave the burner on low just in case your mixture begins to set. Now add the vitamin e and essential oils… That’s right stir them in!

Now just pour your mixture into the container or jar and let it sit.

Things to Note

The mixture hardens very  quickly so make sure you stir throughout the entire process.

While you are working once the water boils, leave the burner on low until your salve actually makes it into the jar and watch it harden like magic!

Be careful not to overheat or you can burn off all the natural properties and you definitely do not want that. I keep my heat on a constant mid-low section.

I also added CBD to this recipe as an extra boost to really help with the pain. Also, I chose to use Lavender, Tea Tree Oil and Peppermint for this mixture and it came it out really great. I even had someone ask me to make one for them as well.

As I mentioned earlier, I gave this away as a birthday gift so next shindig keep this in your back pocket (not literally though) when you need a quick gift option.

Goodbye Migraine

Once your new salve has cooled completely, it’s ready for use! I am really glad this has helped her manage her migraines and offers another alternative to medication. I always worry as they can have nasty side effects if taken too often. Besides who doesn’t love an all-natural and external option?!

I do obviously! Give this a try and let me know how you like it. Or if you love the idea of making this and just don’t have the time, this product is also available for sale! Just go to HERE, to check out or store and buy your own CBD salve.

Happy Crafting!
